I received this press release yesterday, from Lou DiSilvio, president of Industrial Telemetry, Inc. in Oklahoma. He’s got a very interesting spin on mesh networking.
Industrial Telemetry, Inc. Presents
The SCADAMESH™ System with REALMESH™ Radios and the SCADAMESH 424 device.
Industrial Telemetry Inc. is presenting this product at ISA WEST May 2-3 in Long Beach California.
SCADAMESH is a revolutionary concept and a patent-pending family of products for the Industrial and Water and WasteWater worlds. ITI’s REALMESH radios make it all possible.
ITI has combined a patent pending PLC on a Chip with an on-board processor and memory, and mounted them on the same 12-24VDC line-powered board with a patented REALMESH radio, in an industrial DIN housing. The SCADAMESH 424 supports 4-20mA in and out, 0-5V in and out, 0-10V in and out. Digital supports 110V AC in or out, and 12-24VDC in or out.
A REALMESH (Real Multi-point Enhanced Signal Handling) radio is one which combines transceiver capabilities with “repeater” functionalities in a single device, while supporting connectivity to analog and/or digital input or output. The result of deploying a series of SCADAMESH 424 devices with REALMESH radios is that each supports 4 analog in, 2 analog out, 4 digital in or out and “helps” the others get control messages from point of origin to destination without the need for out-dated separate repeaters and routers, or having to go back to a base station or SCADA system with every message, unless desired. If a base station is utilized, it can also be used as a gateway device to the internet, or be polled by an existing SCADA system..
REALMESH radios utilize a patented, true peer-to-peer MESH networking protocol, with every device being a repeater and a transceiver. When a new SCADAMESH device joins the network, it actually strengthens the overall performance of the entire REALMESH radio network by adding yet another series of supported IO points and an extra repeater/router to enhance network throughput performance. Future products from ITI will involve, and support, a higher ratio of I/O to REALMESH radios.
By adding the PLC on a Chip to the same board, efficiencies in space and execution are obtained. By adding a processor and memory, external to the PLC or the radio, but on the same board, we achieve our patent-pending ability to store the PLC’s ladder logic source code at the point of the PLC, while it executes its compiled code version. Because the PLC and our SCADAMESH local processor are both connected and on-board, any ladder logic changes can be made almost instantly, and therefore minimizes PLC downtime.
Further, by storing the companion PLC ladder logic source code in the local memory, we can poll that on-board memory without interfering with any PLC processes, and obtain a current Validated copy of the existing source code.
Since this polling can be done in real time from wherever there is secure access to the system, it eliminates errors and guesswork as to how a given PLC is programmed. SCADAMESH™ also supports immediate PLC code changes if desired. With our sophisticated I/O Mapping software, we do everything from overview to drill-down, and re-programming on the fly.
