Being the solution…AutomationDirect

April 19, 2006 by Walt Boyes

TJ Johns, at AutomationDirect reports:
The Forsyth Alliance, a rookie robotics team sponsored by AutomationDirect made up of students from local county high schools, recently competed in its Regional for the 15th Annual FIRST Robotics competition at the Gwinnett Civic Center near Atlanta. The team had 42 days to design, build, test, and ship a man-sized robot for the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition.teampicture By the end of the three-day Regional on March 16-18, the team’s robot, named “Otto,” placed 15th out of 45 teams, was chosen for the final matches on Saturday, and although not part of the final winning alliance, walked away with the “Rookie All-Star” award. This award “celebrates a rookie team exemplifying a young but strong partnership effort, as well as implementing the mission of FIRST: to inspire students to learn more about science and technology.” Winning the All-Star award guaranteed Otto a spot in the National championships April 27-29 at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta. The team also won the “Imagery” award, which “celebrates attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual aesthetic integration of the machine and team appearance.”
It is nice to see another automation company working to ensure that the supply of automation engineers in the United States continues after the rest of us oldf*rts retire.
If you’re doing something to help us continue to have a supply of automation engineers into the middle of the 21st Century, tell me what your’re doing.
