Blowing this popstand…

May 17, 2005 by Walt Boyes

Unfortunately, I have to leave WBF now to journey to the next stop on my travels, the Fieldbus Foundation’s Interoperability Demonstration at ISP-Lima in Ohio.
So I will miss interesting discussions like Pamela Mars’ from Honeywell who is slated to discuss the integration of manual operations in a batch automation system. We’re never going to get away from some manual interaction in the batch process, so we need to use the S88 methodology of treating those actions as equipment.
Other discussions slated to be presented today include taking S88 concepts to the next level, using batchML for migrating batch control logic, and considerations for managing global recipe development.
This afternoon’s session will be entirely devoted to Pharma applications, as well as an update from Rodger Jeffery from Mettler-Toledo on the CSIA and MESA liason work.
If you are interested in the papers presented at this meeting, you should visit http://www.wbf.org and order the CD of the proceedings. Much valuable information is contained therein.
If you want to really delve deeply into batch, you can also order the consolidated proceedings CD from the past 12 years’ meetings. This incredibly bargain priced disk ($50!!!) gives you about 400 of the most important papers of the past decade on batch management and control. This is also available at the WBF website, http://www.wbf.org.
