More from Sonnenberg…

May 22, 2006 by Walt Boyes

Emerson’s Management Process
The process is used to identify synergies, eliminate surprises, know what to do when things go south in a hurry.
The six key elements of the system are:
1. Keep it simple.
Chuck Knight would sit at meetings, Sonnenberg said, and say, “I don’t get it!” This was not an admission of a problem from Knight but rather a demand for the hapless manager to go home and do his homework.
2. Commitment to planning…
“At Emerson,” Sonnenberg said, “planning is a contact sport.”
3. Strong system of followup and control
4. Action oriented organization
5. Operational Excellence
6. Creating an Environment in which people can and do make a difference.
More to come……..
