One sensor emits ultrasonic energy while a second sensor receives the remnants. Some designs package both sensors in the same physical device so it may appear to be a single sensor. click for more...

The Cards You’re Dealt:
When a Backwards Flowmeter Is The Best Option

Last month, the installation of the catalyst recirculation flow element was discussed as it related to the operation of the reactor. In particular, the reactor was operated for approximately six months using flow measurements based upon a Venturi flow element installed backwards. (During a shutdown, it was "confirmed" that the Venturi was not touched). Part of the reason the meter was operated in this way for such an extended period of time was, in part, because the plant was waiting for another shutdown to correct the installation. click for more...

Tap Orientation for DP Flow Element in Gas Service

In gas service, the taps should be oriented so the impulse tubing remains completely filled with gas while ensuring there is no accumulation of liquid between the taps and the transmitter. Failure to maintain a gaseous hydraulic connection between the flow element taps and the differential pressure transmitter can adversely affect the accuracy of the flow measurement system. click for more...
